played a show last night with Math the band. was an all ages show way out in the middle of nowhere in this kids garage. the crowd was really diverse and energetic. It really made up for the nightmare of a show I played last week. Last week I played a show at the retox lounge where the band that opened up for me was absolutely the hokiest band I've ever seen. and Ive seen some hokey shit. It was a father and son band playing songs that sounded like james taylor. there was a about 10 people there but they just kepy playing and playing and playing until they eventually ran EVeryone off and then when they finished playing finally They left too!! the fuckers. so I ended up playing for the bartender and the owner.
show last night was the opposite of that. The crowd was really receptive and gave me lots of much needed love. I screwed up the words to "have you heard about the war" but as always everyone ate "the chicken song" up. towards the end of my set when i started running out of material people were screaming "play the chicken song!" CHICKEN!" I regret having ever written that song.
oh that reminds me that guy I met on the plane when I got back from kc covered po chicken. I guess hes gonna put it on an album hes working on called "Generica". he emailed me his version of it and i really like it. kind of a somber version but its cool.
anyways the show last night was grand. when Math the band came on the kids really went nuts. havnt been to an all ages show in years so I kinda forgot how crazy kids go for good energetic music. Math has all kinds of great songs. and choreographed dance moves they interact with the audience really well. their keynoardist is beautiful i must say. and their singer is really charismatic on stage.
claude called me and asked me if i wanted to play a show and I said yes. and i had a great time all thanks to him.
